My Spoiled Golden Retriever Spreads Holiday Cheer

Sharon Hill | December 13th, 2010

My spoiled golden retriever, Sabrina Renee, and I went out and did some errands this morning. She dressed in her Christmas sweater with the light-up tree and we stopped at the bank, which lets dogs in and gives them cookies, and the dog store, Wags and Whiskers.

She saw her friend Camille and her cousin, Bodhi, and they all posed for this photo. Of course, we also picked up some treats while we were there.

We had to stop by the veterinary clinic. Since it was cold, Sabrina Renee dressed in her red hoodie to stay warm.

We went into one of the treatment rooms and saw more photos of her on the walls.

In the photo below she is the one in the middle of the top row, looking up at the wall.

My golden retriever, Sabrina Renee, and I went shopping to pick up some holiday gifts. We stopped at the local dog store, Wags and Whiskers, and Sabrina stopped to help her friend, Camille, trim the tree in the store window.

When we were in Santa Rosa, Sabrina Renee wanted to show Dexter and his mom what she looked like in her Halloween costume. Dexter loved the bee. He ran around chasing her because he wanted to squeak it. She got tired of him doing it and barked at him so we made him stop.

I ended up sending him a spare bee that I had at home.

My Spoiled Golden Retriever – Getting Ready for Fun with Dogs

Sharon Hill | November 15th, 2010

Sabrina Renee can’t wait to get to the polo field in the mornings when we are in Santa Rosa. As soon as Dexter’s mom opens the car door, they run in and are ready to go. The field isn’t far from Dexter’s house, in fact, we walked there one morning, but with Sabrina and I had to head home today, we took the car.

Below, the two of them stopped for a photo in the middle of their fun.

We are still in Santa Rosa and the weather was so nice this afternoon that the dogs got to go swimming. Sabrina Renee, my spoiled golden retriever, and chocolate lab, Dexter, love to swim. With us on the trip was sheltie, Casey, who does not like to get wet, so he and his mom hiked and waited as the other dogs swam.

Sabrina was very tired after swimming and promptly fell asleep next to me in the back seat of the van when she was done playing.

My Spoiled Golden Retriever Has Fun Chasing a Ball

We are in Santa Rosa which means Sabrina Renee can run and play wither her friend, chocolate lab, Dexter, at the local polo field. As you can see in the video above, she loves to chase a tennis ball, Dexter isn’t as interested. She does get tired and sometimes takes a rest, usually lying on top of the ball so no other dogs can get to it.

There are a number of dogs on the filed at the same time as Sabrina Renee and Dexter. Many are small dogs but they all get along well and the field is so big that they can have room to run by themselves, if they wish. Below is a photo of Happy, the schnauzer, who visits the field a few times a day.

My Spoiled Golden Retriever and I Design a Dog Collar

Sharon Hill | November 12th, 2010

Sabrina Renee and I headed up to Santa Rosa again today to spend a weekend with friends, chocolate lab, Dexter, and his mom. Last time she and and Dexter went swimming and we noticed that he didn’t have a collar that he could wear when he was in the water. He has a very nice hand-beaded one and a canvas one.

So, before we went to see him, we went to to our local dog store, Wags and Whiskers, and designed one for him. I chose a red plastic collar, then picked the “charms” to add to it. I know that Dexter’s mom is very interested in politics and is a faithful member of the Republican Party. I also noticed that she flies a flag outside her house. So, I chose an elephant, to represent the Republican Party, two American flags and two dog bones.

We gave Dexter his collar today and he and his mom loved it! He looks really handsome in his red collar.

The collars are made by Hotdogs All Dressed, Inc. The collar I chose to decorate was a Hydro collar.

My Spoiled Golden Retriever Gets Her 1st Treats for the Holidays

Sharon Hill | November 11th, 2010

There are a lot of dogs in our neighborhood that we give packages of treats to for the holidays such as, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and, most recently, Halloween. We were surprised this morning to find this package of treats for the Winter holidays on our doorstep. They are from Prince, the sheltie that lives across the court.

Sabrina Renee was very happy to receive them!

My Spoiled Golden Retriever Gets Homeopathic Care

Sharon Hill | November 10th, 2010

My spoiled golden retriever, Sabrina Renee, has been having trouble with her anal glands for quite some time. She has had to get them expressed every other week, which isn’t good. She should be able to express them herself. I’ve tried all sorts of different foods and herbs but have not yet been successful.

When Sabrina Renee was a puppy, I had worked with a veterinarian who used a homeopathic remedy on her. She had had a personality change after a distemper vaccine and my animal communicator had referred me to someone. The remedy worked really well and it was simple. After a few days, she had become her sweet self.

With the success of that treatment being in my mind, I decided to work with homeopathy again. I went to a few presentations that Beth Murray did at Sabrina Renee’s vet’s office and scheduled an appointment.

Beth first sat with Sabrina Renee to observe her and talked to me about Sabrina Renee’s life. It was so interesting that the issues regarding her anal glands are directly related to her need to merge with every person she meets. This is a trait she has had since she was a puppy which probably was the result of having trouble merging with me, since I was still grieving my previous golden.

We got a remedy to try along with some flower essences which will help her relax and release the need to merge with everyone. We’ll see Beth again next month and discuss Sabrina Renee’s progress.
